The Faulty Evangelical Hermeneutics of ‘All Lives Matter’

Saying “All Lives Matter” is like hiding the gift of God away, afraid to invest it for fear of loss. It is a rejection of our scriptural mandate to believe (not just intellectually assent) that Jesus Christ is Lord.

My Racial Indifference (an apology)

I was so wrong to think and behave that way. It took this year and this season in my life, for me to realize I was indifferent to racism, yet I assumed I was adequately sympathetic and thoughtful. I am deeply regretful and so sorry for my insensitivity in walking out of the film. Yes, others did as well, but I can only speak for myself. I can assume some of the filmmakers and others in attendance were bothered by such a display of displeasure. I didn’t realize I was being cowardly and insensitive, while exercising my right to reject the remainder of the screening.

Sitting With Jesus

In 2014, my husband and I moved from the USA to Queensland, Australia, to join a fantastic group of Jesus-followers living out the Kingdom through a living room gathering and community connections. What do you do in an unfortunate situation? What do you do when it seems God didn’t come through? Many think that when someone is going through an extremely difficult time God should just rush in and rescue them. In our experience, we must admit that he doesn’t usually work…

Can Christians Participate in Riots?

Protests. Peaceful protests and riots. We have had them in Lebanon since October 17. The US is witnessing some of the most widespread (and violent) protests/riots since the 1960s civil right movement. How should Jesus followers respond? Perhaps it is clear for us that we should reject oppression. But what…

Deliverance

It’s late and I can’t sleep — another week in mid-2020, so it’s the ideal time to write about how I feel about the state of the world in this little blog I’ve called Deliver Us From Bad Theology. I put these words together early last year, while in deep…

Dismantling My Worldview

Developing a Christian worldview is a topic that often comes up in Christian circles. A proper Christian worldview should give one the biblical lens to interpret the world and events around them. If the Bible gives Christians the full revelation of what they need to know to understand the world,…
