Dad’s Hands is the second in a trilogy of poems honoring my beloved parents.

Dad’s hands are a biography
a story of love
big
stubby
strong and tender
calloused and creased
leathery and worn
trembling with time and age.

Chalk to chalkboard
opening wide the spaces of the mind
gently supporting
holding on to Love Divine
witnessing truth
exploring Mystery
hands to hand
guiding
carrying
embracing
surrendering to All Knowing Love.

Traversing the wide oceans blue
dry deserts scorching
tall grasslands waving
nailing, pounding, building
homes and schools and kitchens
tenderly
creating
giving
blessing
serving in Courageous Love.

Hands of an ancient
carpenter and teacher
healer and guide
caressing the knife
cradling the wood
carving, releasing, restoring
minds
hearts
bodies
And all that’s good.

Building, mending in Perfect Love.
